Twenty-three-year-old chef Matt Bradley had just proposed to his childhood sweetheart and lifelong partner Hannah when he realized that he wanted to make a change. “On the one hand, I was really happy and secure with Hannah. On the other, my confidence had taken a real nosedive,” Matt explained. After seeing a picture of himself and Hannah at a wedding, Matt set the goal for himself to get fit in time for his own special day.
The first step that Matt and Hannah took was joining a local gym and planning their meals at the beginning of each week. Matt was happy that he could still eat well, being that he is a chef, and lost over six pounds in his first week!
“We soon got into the habit of planning our meals at the start of each week,” Matt said. “One of my favorites is homemade burgers and chips made with low-calorie cooking spray and served with piles of fresh vegetables.”
Creating a good habit, such as planning out meals, is a perfect way to take control of what you are eating and start your journey towards better health.
Matt also started to run on the treadmill a few times a week at their local gym, eventually building up the stamina to run a 10k!
One of Matt’s biggest encouragements came when he went to see his doctor and he wasn’t even recognizable. “When I walked in, he glanced from me to his computer screen and said, ‘Sorry – I think I’ve got the wrong person.’”
Matt had made so much progress his doctor even told him he didn’t need to continue using his asthma inhaler.
By the time of the wedding, Matt and Hannah had lost a combined weight of over 130 pounds. Matt says that even though they were always happy together, ever since they have made clear their fitness goals and worked towards a healthier lifestyle they have been much more confident with themselves and have had more energy than ever before.
